President-elect Stuart Larson presented the H.N. Bishop Award for community service to Denny Ulmer. After he retired as a special education administrator, Denny put on his volunteer hat and has not shied from taking on leadership roles in the community. He is assistant director of the Hubbard County Food Shelf and president of the Park Rapids Community Development Corporation which is leading the Armory Arts and Events Center project. After volunteering for several years, he and his wife, Kathy, are instrumental in organizing 2nd Street Stage and doing other volunteer work for the Park Rapids Downtown Business Association. Denny also serves on the Fish Hook Lake and River Association Board of Directors and last fall managed the successful write-in campaign for Park Rapids Mayor.
